چکیده

Streptococcus pneumoniae is one of the common causes disease in children like pneumonia, otitis and meningitis. Pneumococci colonize asymptomatically nasopharynx could cause severe life-threatening illnesses. Since 2010, 10-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV-10) has been included Bulgaria for routine immunization from 6 weeks to 2 years. For period 2011-2019 coverage with it considered be 90%. The aim present study determine frequency carriers serotypes S. nasopharyngeal isolates 2021, more than ten years after introduction PCV10 Bulgaria. Nasopharyngeal swabs were taken 220 vaccinated children, aged 5 months old, collected January 2021 December 2021. Molecular detection methods used – polymerase chain reaction (PCR) typing. By amplification lytA gene was detected isolates, by cpsA capsule abundance determined. Typing performed PCR allelic hybridization. results show a total 73 positive samples (33.2%). most serogroup/serotypes determined 19B/19C (15%) followed serotypes/serogroups 15B/15C (8%), 23B (8%) 10F/10C (7, 1%). In conclusion presented data, we estimate high percentage Bulgarian characterized mainly non-vaccine populations.

Nasopharyngeal carriage of penicillin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae in healthy children.

Streptococcus pneumoniae carriage is a risk factor for the development of respiratory system infections and the spread of penicillin-resistant strains. The aim of this study was to investigate nasopharyngeal carriage of S. pneumoniae in healthy children and resistance to penicillin and other antimicrobials and to assess related risk factors. Nasopharyngeal specimens collected from healthy child...

Carriage rate and serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae amongst children in Thika Hospital, Kenya

Streptococcus pneumoniae is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide. Rates of carriage are highest in infants and the elderly. The objectives of this study were to determine the rate of nasopharyngeal colonization by S. pneumoniae, and to describe the antibiotic resistant patterns and the serotypes of the carried isolates. A cross-sectional study design was used. Nasopharyngeal swabs...

Molecular surveillance of nasopharyngeal carriage of Streptococcus pneumoniae in children vaccinated with conjugated polysaccharide pneumococcal vaccines

Following the introduction of pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) for infants, surveillance studies on Streptococcus pneumoniae carriage have proven valuable for monitoring vaccine effects. Here, we compared molecular versus conventional diagnostic methods in prospective cross-sectional surveillances in vaccinated infants in the Netherlands. Nasopharyngeal samples (n = 1169) from 11- and 24-...

Stability of serotypes during nasopharyngeal carriage of Streptococcus pneumoniae.

Serotype changes among natural isolates of Streptococcus pneumoniae are well documented and occur by recombinational exchanges at the capsular biosynthetic locus. However, the frequency with which this phenomenon occurs within the nasopharynx of children is not clear and is likely to be highest in the nasopharynx of children, who have high rates of pneumococcal carriage. A birth cohort of 100 i...
